Knowledge is not Wisdom – And Why It's So Important to Follow the Path of Embodiment
A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of holding a very special private event for a couple in their home, in their therapy room. It was a beautiful space, with a skylight and a view of the fields. Around the room were four bookshelves, filled with the great spiritual and New Age classics from various directions and backgrounds. There were books on letting go, connecting with the inner child, on fear, soul connections – a true paradise of knowledge.
The Power of Knowledge vs. Embodied Wisdom
I enjoyed letting my gaze wander over this wealth of wisdom, and at the same time, this event was a reminder – knowledge is good, no doubt. There are so many fascinating and inspiring books out there offering a variety of concepts and theories. Much of it is inspiring and helpful. And the fact that you're curious and eager to learn is a clear sign of how your intelligent, intuitive soul is guiding you – toward expansion, toward the new.
It’s those moments when you read something, and you feel the feeling of deep understanding. But here’s the thing: Knowledge is not necessarily wisdom.
The True Transformation Happens in the Lived Moments
Books – whether in hand or lined up on bookshelves – can inspire us and offer new perspectives, but true transformation happens in the lived moments. In the small, everyday micro-moments of life.
What often happens: After our moments of clarity, we slip back into “normality,” into the familiar, comfortable daily life, and the ego-mind takes the wheel again. The ego urges us through the same habits and patterns that have kept us in the same place for years.
Inside, we still face the same emotions, thoughts, and perceptions of the world. It can go on like this – for years and years, an entire lifetime. You know deep down: it won’t change if you don’t change. And you’re ready to do what it takes to truly see it and experience it.
Are You Absorbing Information or Living It?
It’s always exciting to pause and honestly, lovingly check in with yourself through open-hearted self-awareness: Where are we simply absorbing information – or repeating it? And where are we actually embodying and living insight?
The Bhagavad Gita: A Story for Now
A powerful example is the Bhagavad Gita – one of the most important texts in Indian philosophy that yoga students encounter. It may be a beautiful story when we read about Krishna and Arjuna, but as long as we only view it as such, we remain trapped in old patterns. It gets interesting when we ask ourselves: What does this battle that Arjuna has to fight mean for me and for my life? Why does Arjuna fall – and why does he rise again? And what does that mean for me, here and now?
Living the Wisdom: Hero’s Journey
We can analyze, admire, and marvel at the "Hero’s Journey" of heroes in books – but as long as we don’t bring anything from it into actual practice, it remains another book, sitting next to the others on the shelf.
Are We Just Collecting Data or Creating Change?
The same applies to the concepts and theories that the New-Age and self-development world wonderfully makes accessible to us via social media, podcasts, and more: “What is my attachment style? What are the five beliefs I hold? What are my values?” And then? What happens next? Are all these data we gather about ourselves also just theory if nothing changes? When we still find ourselves asking why the same patterns dominate us in those small moments with our partner, our children, at work, or in traffic?
The Mind vs. True Transformation
My friend Angelika always said we are “gente de mente” – people of the mind. Our mind has the ability to grasp, analyze, and store all these concepts in its drawers. But true change doesn’t happen in the mind.
Albert Einstein expressed it this way: “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” It takes a different approach – and this is where embodiment comes into play.
Letting Go of Quick Fixes
Two years ago, a participant in a retreat I was leading shared in the group call after the retreat: “The fear is still there.” In this fast-paced world, the expectation is often high to find a quick fix – a weekend retreat to solve and get rid of all problems. Oh, if only it were that simple. If there were this magical miracle solution – I’m sure we would know about it. We must let go of this expectation, if it’s still lingering somewhere within us. It only creates pressure, it’s a hope for a possible destination where everything is perfect, which implies that something is wrong with you in the here and now.
Embodiment & Your Heart
Your heart is a portal that allows you to release all this pressure. Instead of optimizing yourself or needing to get rid of something, it’s a way to fully arrive in the here and now. To accept everything from this warm, expansive presence of the heart and realize: Everything is already inside you. And in this moment, knowledge becomes wisdom – because it is lived, no longer just hoped for, desired, dreamed of, expected, learned, or heard, but truly felt within you. With that inner wisdom, which lives and speaks within you without words – older than all of us combined.
Your heart carries the ability of alchemy – instead of repressing, devaluing, or suppressing, sugar-coating, you can meet all these inner stories, these parts, these old emotions through your heart, give them space, and thereby release them. Because: What we persist in, resists. Whereas what we accept from our wise heart, from the deep consciousness of the heart, transforms our whole life.
Expanding Through Your Heart’s Wisdom
You are here to experience yourself – to expand. You are reading these lines because your soul is nudging you louder and louder that it’s time. It’s asking you to stretch: in your beliefs, in your self-concept, and in your willingness to rewrite what you thought you knew. Your soul doesn’t seek comfort. It seeks growth. It wants the kind of honesty that burns through illusions and reveals the wild beauty beneath.
And this unfolding can be the most nourishing, and most pleasurable journey – with the right tools, accompanied by others who are on the same path.
That’s why I am creating The Path of the Heart – a 3+ month Mentoring Container, that allows you to fully live all the nudges you feel within. To feel secure within yourself to express your authentic being, no longer being dominated by emotional waves, and to effortlessly create your heart’s creations – no longer searching for purpose outside, but deeply remembering it within you.
